Air Heritage Museum and Aircraft

The Air Heritage Museum actively recovers and restores the amazing airplanes of the past. You and your children can see the planes, primarily rare aircraft of World War II, as technicians are rebuilding them in a 120 square-foot hangar at the Beaver County Airport. Witness this display of historic technology and celebration of a special kind of heroism, housed in a "working museum." Take the trip and live the history.

Andy Warhol Museum

The Warhol Museum is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. It is a tribute to Warhol and a full-on exploration of his influence on 20th-century art. Besides the exhibits and archives, The Warhol also offers wonderful opportunities for your children , like RUST, the Radical Urban Silkscreen Team. It's home to Youth Publications, which hires and trains student assistants to create a new magazine, much like Warhol's Interview. It is also a particularly welcoming environment for any young LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, BiSexual, Transgender) youth. The Warhol is worth a long visit to see all it has to offer, and it may become an important part of your young artist's creative life.

Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve

You and your children can get back to nature, and learn something along the way. On this Reserve there are more than five miles of trails in 134 acres of sanctuary, filled with native plants, animals, and birds.The Audubon Center for Native Plants is here, as well as programs, classrooms, a library, and an auditorium. It's become a community center that focuses on the use and preservation of native plants. It's a wonderful place to celebrate and explore the botanical world, at any age.

Boyce Park Ski Area

Boyce Park is a wonderful place to visit, but the ski area deserves special attention. It offers a fun and surprisingly inexpensive way to spend an afternoon schussing on the mogols. With nine runs, mostly for beginners, it's a perfect option when you or your children are just getting started as skiers or when you don't have much time.

Boyce Park is one of Pittsburgh's best recreation areas for snowboarding, skiing, basketball, and baseball. Want more? There's an archery range, a model airplane field, and a log house to visit. And even though it offers a lot to do for sports fans, it's also a perfect place for beginners and weekend warriors, maybe the right spot for you and your children.

The Brew House, a former brewery, is a center for working artists in Pittsburgh, offering galleries, work spaces, and The Performance Garage. Set aside the fourth Saturday of any month for Barely Brunch, when people of all ages come together to make a little art, share a snack, and have some great conversation. The Brew House is a great place to explore any day, but the Brunch could be a special occasion for older artistic children in the family. Call or visit the website for details.

The tour is a walking (and tasting) excursion that visits six food stops, including an on-site bread bakery, a European cheese shop, a pastry shop right out of Northern Italy, a biscotti bakery, and a sandwich and pizza place. Bring your walking shoes and your yen for good food. You'll be eating on the run — or the walk — and loving every minute of it!
